National Gaming Day… At the Library!!!

I swear kids today are so freakin’ lucky. When I was a young Pudd back in the day, growing up in the earliest of the early 80′s we had an Atari. I began gaming at the tender age of 5 thanks to my parents finding this new gaming “fad”, and I was hooked.

Here we are some 30 years after the birth of console gaming and along the way we picked up PC gaming, 3D polygons, arcade quality graphics at home, surround sound gaming, high capacity storage disc and online game distribution. I won’t go on about the details of gaming’s history since there are a number of resources dedicated to the topic, but I can say I never thought the industry would get to a point where it’s on par with Hollywood for our entertainment dollars.
The point of all this is that now that gaming has become so mainstream that it is no longer looked at as that other hobby that makes your kids worship the devil, like D&D,
my 12 yr old son (and eventually my 4 month old son) can go to their local library for National Gaming Day! I mean seriously WTF!? I would have thought much better of my local library at that age had they had a National Gaming Day as opposed to some crappy book fair with more Mad Libs. So parents, make Obama happy by turning off the TV and putting down the video games at home and take your kids to the library for some quality video game time together. And kids, take some time to educate your parents on the rich history of one of America’s favorite pastimes, you all might accidentally learn something in the process.
