Speaking of Rock Band…
If you purchased some of last weeks Jimmy Buffet song offerings for your rocking pleasure you may have noticed that they were new recordings done for just for Rock Band. In fact ol’ Jimmy went so far as to throw props to Rock Band itself in his song “Volcano.” Now I wouldn’t have thought the demographics would include too many other Buffet fans besides me, but I applaud Harmonix for providing such an eclectic lineup and Jimbo for going the extra mile to acknowledge the gaming culture as a medium worth a fresh studio visit.

Xbox 360 The New Home for JRPG’s?
It would appear that in it’s ever futile bid to woo the Japanese gamer market Microsoft is once again trying to wow the Nipponese populace with shiny new RPG’s. Sure there have been a few released in the systems lifespan thus far (Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon, etc.) and some were from big names in the JRPG community, but now M$ is firing the Big Guns.
That’s right folks, Square-Enix is finally ready to play for real on the white box, which should finally answer the age old question: is the Square name enough to drive system sales? Of course one could argue that a true Final Fantasy exclusive would be required for such a monumental task, but in all honesty isn’t a new franchise more interesting?

Must Play: Dodge Quest
In one of the best and most quizzical uses of Advergaming, Dodge has created a Dragon Quest-alike game in which you must buy a Dodge vehicle to win the heart of your flower-shop sweetheart. This is the most fun you’ve had on the web since “You Have to Burn the Rope.”

Did they say Splatterhouse?!

I just want to take this moment to thank the Heavens, beyond the everyday blessings I’ve received, one more has recently been revealed to me… an updated version of Splatterhouse. I love pretty much all video games, and there are several franchises that hold a special place in my heart. But one that has been not only a fond memory, but a game I still fire up on the TurboGrafx16 to this day is Splatterhouse, and now Namco has finally responded to the numerous postcards I’ve sent with a new version.

Bionic Commando Rearmed Pulls no Punches
In their desire to ensure that this beautiful little masterpiece not only receives updated visuals, but also holds true to it’s roots, Capcom has submitted Bionic Commando Rearmed to the ESRB and accepted it’s M rating.
News from the BCR official blog fills us in on this gung ho attitude and just makes me feel a little warm and fuzzy inside. I think it’s great that they’re willing to not only put a lot of polish into this product, but also maintain a level of conviction to it’s source material. Now I can’t wait to punch somebodies face in with a mechanical arm!

EA Loves the MicroTrans’

In a move that should surprise no one, EA has decided to milk… I mean provide their fine customers a chance to enhance their purchase of Battlefield: Bad Company with a selection of several additional weapons via the various digital marketplaces. It’s common knowledge that EA, Namco and really just about all the big boys nowadays, have learned to embrace the digital distribution channels available with the current gen systems, but some have made their offerings more consumer friendly and or worthwhile than others. I mean who can forget Oblivion’s horse armor? It was armor… for your horse… that, unlike in an MMORPG, no one else but you would ever really enjoy, and served no practical purpose in the game.

Here I am…
I know, I know. You’re all wondering where I’ve been this past week or so. Playing a boat load of games maybe? Reading “How to Blog about games for idiots” perchance? Maybe working on my own design doc for the next great game? No… I had to have a bunch of dental work done. Not very exciting I know. But I did bite the bullet and decided to get a more up to date PC rig.

Lost Odyssey Journal - The 1,000 Year Old Virgin
The fires are starting to burn out, the dogs tied up and Kaim and company are coming home. Finally on the 4th and last disc of this Odyssey that while not lost most assuredly will be missed. There have been some recent twists and turns in the plot but nothing that would surprise most people that have played any other RPGs in the past. Even finally starting to grind a bit due to the last half of the 3rd disc being chock full of cutscenes. Out of the few complaints I have for this game that would be a big one. Read more
